چکیده

Saqqara pyramid lies to the south west of Cairo near the epicenter of Cairo earthquake that took place on 12 October 1992. The Pyramid is severely damaged by the earthquake with epicenter at about 14 km away. As a result numerous efforts are exerted to restore the pyramid and to prevent it from total collapse. The current work is motivated by such efforts with focus on the potential of using the spectral ratio method (HVSR) to define subsurface monuments. HVSR method is based on the spectral analyses of recorded ambient method. The ambient noise in front of the southern side of the pyramid is recorded at 15 sites. The sites selected are 9 m apart with a time window of 5 minutes on average. Array shape and dimensions is chosen based on the prior information about the location and extension of the tunnel underneath. The tunnel extended about 20 m underneath the area adjacent to the southern gate of the pyramid. The estimated fundamental frequencies and peak amplitudes are contoured showing some low value trends at the area adjacent to the southern gate. This may lead to the possibilities of the HVSR method to explore the subsurface monuments. However, this statement is still in the early stage and further theoretical investigation is required. The Famine Stele Provides the Hieroglyphic Names of Chemicals and Minerals Involved in the Construction of Pyramids

Egyptologists have long claimed that no records exist which describe how the Pyramids were built. A stone stele is engraved on a rock at the island Sehel, near Elephantine, north of Aswan. It was discovered in 1889 by C.E. Wilbour and was deciphered by Brugsch (1891), Pleyte (1891), Morgan (1894), Sethe (1901) and Barguet (1953). The hieroglyphic text, called the Famine Stele, has been examined...

Estimation of glacier thicknesses and basal properties using the horizontal-to-vertical component spectral ratio (HVSR) technique from passive seismic data

Microtremor measurements and the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique, generally used for site effect studies as well as to determine the thickness of soft sedimentary layers, can effectively be applied to map the thickness of glaciers. In this work the radio-echo sounding, geoelectric and active seismic methods, widely employed to image the earth interior, are applied to veri...

A modified HVSR method to evaluate site effect in Northern Mississippi considering ocean wave climate

Article history: Received 4 July 2015 Received in revised form 4 December 2015 Accepted 10 December 2015 Available online 11 December 2015 This paper presents the time history maps of horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) of 12 long-term microtremor recordings (LTRs) in Northern Mississippi and the coastal area of Gulf of Mexico. These maps show that a stable predominant frequency (f0) v...
